Dr. Ryuko Kubota

Ryuko Kubota, PhD from the University of Toronto, is a Professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education in the Faculty of Education of UBC Vancouver campus, where she teaches applied linguistics and language teacher education. Her research draws on critical approaches to language education, focusing on antiracism, decolonization, critical multiculturalism, critical pedagogies, and language ideologies.

She is a co-editor of Race, culture, and identities in second language education: Exploring critically engaged practice (Routledge 2009). She has many other publications including books, journal articles, and book chapters. Previously, she taught in secondary schools in Japan and in higher education in California and North Carolina.
